The truth about salt therapy

On a boiling hot summer's day, it can be a real challenge to find a quiet spot to chill on the beach. Waer Waters has the perfect solution, as Waer Waters is bringing the salty sea air to you this summer. We recently began offering salt therapy: a natural and powerful salt treatment in a magical and beautiful salt grotto that has astounding health benefits. Did you know that one session of salt therapy has the same benefits as a weekend by the sea? The healing, therapeutic effects should absolutely not be taken with a pinch of salt. Read on to discover why.

The magical power

Salt therapy

You'd be forgiven for thinking that salt therapy is a new invention. Nothing could be further from the truth, as salt therapy has been around for centuries. Centuries ago, it was discovered that salt miners rarely got sick, in spite of the gruelling nature of their work. In addition, the health of their respiratory systems improved significantly. These effects sparked the interests of researchers. Polish researcher, Feliks Boczkowsi, found that the climate in salt mines has a positive effect on health and, in particular, on skin and the respiratory system.

After this discovery, artificial salt grottos sprung up all over the world, which mimic the climate in a natural salt grotto or salt mine. In our neck of the woods, salt therapy has been gaining popularity in recent years. The salt remedy is currently a must-have treatment in the top spas.

The healing power of salt

After spending time in a salt grotto, you feel reborn. The salt grotto has a medicinal microclimate that is ideal for people with skin and respiratory conditions. There are many benefits associated with salt therapy. The pure Himalayan salt in the grotto has antibacterial properties and is therefore suitable for treating many different health problems. The healing benefits include:

  • boosts your immune system
  • helps relieve dry skin & inflammation and dermatological conditions are improved (such as psoriasis, acne, irritation, inflamed skin etc.)
  • clears your airways & is a kind of detox remedy for your lungs (asthma, respiratory allergies, chronic bronchitis, smoker's cough, coughs caused by pollution and sinusitis are alleviated)
  • stimulates vitality and health
  • alleviates stress, fatigue, tension and sleep disorders
  • gives you a relaxed and pleasant feeling
  • improves circulatory system (hypertension, poor circulation).

What to expect

A session lasts around 45 minutes. The mineral-rich air is saturated with healing salt particles that are circulated by a halogenerator. It creates and disperses a fine, dry aerosol of salt, which you then inhale. This aerosol reaches deep into your lungs. The salt dissolves in the mucus and is then naturally excreted. As the name ‘salt therapy’ suggests, it's a treatment and so several sessions may be recommended to achieve the desired results. A salt grotto treatment is always a complementary approach and should never be considered a replacement for medical care.

Before entering the salt grotto, you'll be given a pair of white socks. It's best to wear comfortable clothes. Then you will enter a grotto where the walls, ceiling and floor—everything except the chairs—are covered in salt. Lie back on one of the chairs and get cosy under a soft blanket. Now there's nothing else left to do other than to relax and breathe deeply. Soft background music and lights will create a lovely tranquil atmosphere of ultimate peace and serenity. Experience a deep state of meditation or take your favourite book in with you.
